It’s been a big year for superheroes beating the hell out of each other and it seems like next year will continue the trend. Injustice 2 has been officially announced and NetherRealm Studios released the first trailer for the sequel to 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us today along with a slew of details. Watch the trailer below then keep scrolling for my breakdown of all the new details.
The first thing you should have noticed is the drastic change to the standard costumes from the original game. This could mean a few different things: this could be a completely different continuity from the first game, it could just be an aesthetic choice since this is the first of the series on new hardware, or it could mean nothing and I need to stop overanalyzing everything. Personally, I find the first option most interesting.
In a post on the Playstation blog, NetherRealm Community Specialist Tyler Lansdown promised “new characters, new environments, and we’re taking environment destruction and interaction to the next level.” Although aside from the addition of SuperGirl, no new fighters have been confirmed. This is just conjecture but from Bryan Cranston’s narration I believe he may be voicing The Demon’s Head, Ras Al Ghul. Hopefully this time Starfire will get to be more than a support card in iOS version of the game.
Lansdown went on to detail the other big new feature in the trailer, the
IronMan Armor brand new Gear system. This is the game’s new RPG layer which rewards players with character specific loot that can be used to customize not only your fighters looks, but their play style as well. They haven’t commented on the inclusion of micro transactions, but I could see them being attached to the Gear system. It’s too early to say for sure but at the very least this could help diversify the online community and make all of those Batman vs. Batman fights a bit more interesting when the game is released in 2017.
Alright well that’s it for now. Comment below and let us know who you hope is in game!
