Spectacular! Amazing! Superior! Peter Parker! Over the years, everyone’s favorite wallcrawler has been given many descriptions, but perhaps the most significant is his latest, “Exclusive.” Yes, the new Spider-Man game from Insomniac is going to be a Playstation 4 exclusive. This is major. This will be the first Spidey game not published by Activision since they locked up the rights sixteen years ago. In that time the quality has been pretty hit or miss, leaving fans unsure of what to expect each time. In the weeks since the E3 reveal, new details have emerged giving wanna-be webslingers hints of what’s to come. Check out the trailer below and join me to get all the new info!
Insomniac has been wonderfully open to fans lately, revealing all kinds of juicy details on the new, open world adventure. First off, this will thankfully not be another origin story. Spider-Man will have been quite the experienced
swinger crimefighter by the time fans get their hands on him.
The game will be running on an updated version of the “Ratchet and Clank” engine so fans can rest assured it will be beautiful. Anyone unconvinced by that can take solace in the news that the E3 trailer was made with real-time, in-game footage running on the original PS4. No Neo nonsense here.
The story is being written by Insomniac working
at gunpoint closely with Marvel to ensure everything feels right. Some of the best playing superhero games have been hindered by poor writing so this is very reassuring. There will be a Peter Parker component but they have not been willing to go into any detail on that. The enemies being so lovingly bundled up in the trailer are “Inner Demons.” They hench for a villain known as Mr. Negative, one of Marvel’s C-list villains. That is incredibly exciting. I’m not saying I don’t want a few of the heavy hitters like Green Goblin or Doc Ock, but the prospect of getting to encounter some different villains is invigorating. Personally, I’m hoping to take down Stilt-Man.
Finally is the new suit. I’m not crazy about it but that’s just because it’s different and as a fan I fear change. They have insinuated the large white spider logo has a purpose but have not gone into specifics. It could be a damage indicator or maybe it will glow when your Spider Sense tingles, but those are just guesses from a man. A man who has spent a lot of web fluid swinging around the city. A Spider-Man. I’m Spider-Man.
Let me know in the comments below what you want to see when the game hits sometime next year!
